Notts
County are the 23rd most popular team in the world -
according to the FIFA 10
football game.
Research
by manufacturers of the game found Notts are played more than some
Premier League clubs, international giants Italy and Argentina, and
Nottingham Forest.
Standing are calculated based on the teams that gamers from
all over the world choose.
It
is believed Sven-Goran Eriksson's arrival as director of football has
been one of the key contributors to their rise up the table.

The old addage goes that women's football is ok, but the goalkeepers
continue to be the weak link. This may be lazy analysis, it may be
true. However, this logic also stands fair when watching the African
Cup of Nations (or not, given that the BBC don't appear to
give a rats
ass about the tournament) Anyway, spurious stereotypes aside, it's time
to laugh at someone injuring himself uneccesarily

Bored now. Three weeks I've made plans, and three weeks the bloody
weather has intervened. It looks pretty an' all, but really, it's inconveniencing me.

Just been reading up on the fiasco at Buckie Thistle, all perfectly
encapsulated (when isn't it?) on 200%.
It seems unnecessary for me to add further words when Ian has already
written so eloquently, but I couldn't let it pass.
The web is full of video of football matches, of varying quality. Both
the football and the footage, that is. And whilst the authorities at
the top end of the market may feel they are protecting their "product"
by trying to limit such footage, those who seek... Continue reading ...

In the course of trawling through my reader feeds, I happened upon this
article from The
Guardian recalling the Vancouver Whitecaps. Not something
that would usually grip my imagination, but the tale of the 1979 NASL
Championship game is one which surely deserves greater examination. The
bare facts, as ripped from that article, are a game of 3 1/2 hrs, two
penalty shoot outs, a disallowed goal, player protests and laughably
weak refereeing. But my ammended version doesn't do the tal... Continue reading ...
A promising Nigeria U-21 star has been sentenced to 40 lashes of the
whip, after being found guilty of drink driving in Khartoum, the
capital of Sudan.
Striker Stephen Worgu, who plays for first division side Al-Merreikh, was ordered to pay fines of £12 for alcohol consumption and £48 for driving under the influence.
Worgu’s lawyer is appealing the case, while Al-Merreikh are also
pleading his innocence. In an interview with the BBC in April, Worgu

WTF?
I'm all for hilarious observations about the standard of goalkeeping in Women's football. But this? How is this in any way a good thing? (unless you like women in communal baths, obviously)

Whenever a ball goes into the stands during a match, I always wonder
what would happen if the person who grabs it decides that he’s keeping
that sucker and that there’s nothing anyone can do about it.
Well, that’s exactly what happened during the Switzerland v Germany
match at the U17 World Cup. When the guy in the blue shirt got his
hands on that ball, he wasn’t about to give it back — even when
everyone around him turned against him and tried to pry it out of his
hands.

You know me. I don't hold much truck with the Champions League,
and all
the media hype that surrounds it. However, it does occassionally gift
moments such as this. And for that alone we should all be grateful.

This is the moment a former captain of St Austell Football
Club climbed
into the stands and confronted a Newquay football fan in his seat.
Player
Lee Whetter had been sent off just moments before he entered into the
Poltair Park stand where a loyal bunch of supporters had been cheering
on the Peppermints.
Shocked onlookers, including a woman cradling a
newborn baby, tried to restrain the player, but not before he grappled
with Newquay FC
stalwart Mark ‘The
Judge’ Charles. Curren... Continue reading ...

World Cup 2010
gets the expose-esque documentary treatment from South African
filmmaker Craig Tanner and Levitation
Films.
It already caused a bit of a stir at the Durban International Film
Festival and looks to repeat the trick worldwide upon it's
release
(date TBD).
According to the filmmakers "Fahrenheit 2010 cuts
through the hype, with an uncompromising examination of what the World
Cup means for South Africans themselves - in particular, who actually
stands to benefit from the diversion... Continue reading ...

At half past four yesterday afternoon, I contacted Oops' Central
England Correspondent for
his opinion on this game. His response? "I live 10 minutes from the
ground, my mate is manager, I have a free ticket, and I'm not going"
Well, who was laughing as the clocks struck 10pm and the ref blew the
final whistle eh?

Farsley Celtic Back In TroubleFarsley Celtic's future was
last night again thrown into doubt after it was revealed the taxman
will not support the Company Voluntary Arrangement designed to save the
club.
The Conference North outfit came within minutes of folding last month after
their Throstle Nest home was locked by administrators only for a
consortium led by president John Palmer to ride to the rescue at the
last minute.
Celtic had been served with a winding up order by
the Inla... Continue reading ...

The ephemeral majesty of the FA Cup. The stuff of schoolboy dreams, of
romanticised days out, and of Liverpool in cream suits.
It's all a long way from the Horsfall Stadium in Bradford, where Buxton
and Bradford Park Avenue huffed and puffed for near enough ninety minutes, both
resolutely refusing to do anything of much note. The previous Saturday
the two teams had provided what was by all accounts a fairly decent
game, and I can only assume that the effort that went into that display
left t... Continue reading ...

Columbia and Chile do battle over the weekend in what is, for Columbia at least, a win or die match in their bid to travel to South Africa next summer. So important, in fact, that the Columbian FA were confident of selling out the Atansio Giradot stadium in Medelin. Capacity between 40661 and 53000 depending on your source.
Imagine their disappointment then when, as of Wednesday, they had sold the princely number of 134 tickets. That's one hundred. And thirty four.

Two things strike me about this clip on the redevelopment of Highbury,
Norf Lundun. Firstly, it is pleasing to see that journalistic standards in local news reports are
consistently poor, regardless of the self-perceived importance of the
host broadcaster. And secondly, I actually
quite like what they've done with the place. Despite ten years in dat
der Lundun, I never once made it to Highbury. Mainly because I was too
busy despising their fans from afar (or EN5 anyway).

Tranmere Rovers
were good. Once."Good" being a relative term,
obviously. Having moved away, my love has dwindled. But they will
remain my first love. Unlike those I stood, and sat, with during my
formative years, I have fallen in love elsewhere. But we all look upon
those halcyon days with fondness. Which is why the current debacle at
Prenton Park
concerns me so much. I say "concerns" but in truth it is
more "amuses", as the distance and alienation means that whilst I don't
enjoy see... Continue reading ...

It's been a while, no? Have you missed me? Have you noticed? Huh. Oh
well.
Circumstances, masquerading as apathy, have conspired render updates of
this corner of the internets somewhat, shall we say "spasmodic"? But,
dear reader, those times are behind us. Maybe. Indeed, this blog may
well actually become a focus for me. No doubt I'll give more details
later, but for now, let's just say there is less
certainty in my life. So firstly admire the majesty of the partially updated "Where... Continue reading ...

When I were a mere slip of a lad, I had little professed interest in football. I grew up on the posh side of the Wirral (I could see Wales as opposed to Liverpool from my bedroom window), and those friends I had followed Liverpool or Everton. As things moved along, more and more people seemed to be interested in Tranmere. This was the late 80's, and The Whites were rubbish. To the point where they escaped relegation on the last day of the season in the 86-87 season. So it could never be claim... Continue reading ...

A referee
ordered a penalty to be retaken in a
Sunday league football game when an opposition player broke wind as the
ball was kicked.
The Chorlton Villa player got a yellow card for the noise
which was classed as "unsporting behaviour".
The
team, who conceded a goal on the second take, went on to win the match
6-4 against International Manchester FC at Turn Moss in Stretford,
Manchester.
Villa manager Ian Treadwell said their conduct was "normally
exemplary".

Lord knows how you've found this place. But found it you have. So have a penny for that.
As
