Mystery surrounds the whereabouts of Crewe defender Scott
McManus who has gone AWOL after returning on loan to Curzon Ashton.
The
20-year-old defender, who impressed during Gudjon Thordarson's reign at
Gresty Road, has had no contact with the UniBond League Division One
North outfit since playing a handful of games for them in early October.
McManus made six appearances for Crewe when Thordarson was
manager, but is believed to have been beset by personal problems.

Carlton Town 0 Willenhall Town 2
Unibond Division One South
Saturday 14th November
Coming in to this game, Willenhall had gone almost 500 minutes without
scoring. They were rooted to the bottom of the table after a traumatic
summer that culminated in a 10 point deduction. They had recently been
beaten by Spalding, who as connoisseurs of this division will testify,
are routinely rubbish year on year. Carlton on the other hand sat
mid-table, but with games in hand, and were showing signs of... Continue reading ...

Hucknall Town 1 Retford United 4
Unibond Premier Division
Saturday October 31st
Retford United
travelled to the other end of Nottinghamshire to face a Hucknall Town side
who were coming to the end of a rocky
week. It is pretty much a lcoal derby, but such is the apathy
amongst both sets of fans, coupled with the lack of any meaningful
meetings prior to this, that it was really just a run of the mill game.
Retford picked the same team who had surrendered so meekly the previous

Retford United 0 Guiseley 2
Unibond Premier Division
Tuesday 27th October
Yet again, an inability to trouble the onion bag proved to be Retford United's
undoing. As with the match on Saturday, enough chances were created in
the first half alone to put the game to bed, yet the misfiring Godber
and Harvey, normally so reliable, repeatedly failed to bring saves out
of the visiting keeper, let alone put the PA guy to use. Add to their
woes the fact that the back up artistes i... Continue reading ...

Unibond Division One North
Monday 26 October
Note to self (1) Remember to work out where the ground is and how to
get there before leaving. Note to self (2) Trust your judgement. If the table says it will be
goal-less, you might just be right.

Retford United 2 Ossett Town 2
Unibond Premier Division
Sat 24th Oct
Honestly, I don't know what to write about this game. Retford United
played some of their best football for a fair while, but yet again
reluctant strikers and fortuatous defending served to keep the game
within grasp of the visitors, before Ossett Town rode their luck into
the sunset with a goal gift-wrapped by a series of inept defending. And
the the end, it was only a suspect offside decision that left Retford
gr... Continue reading ...

Worksop Issue ‘Hands Off' Warning to Clubs
Worksop Town
have been the victims of several illegal
approaches
from other clubs during the last few days and manager Peter Rinkcavage
says the club are ready to take action. He said, “I know of
at least
four clubs who have been talking to our players over the weekend
without going through the correct channels. Open season on us is over
and we will be contacting the F.A. if this continues. A couple of the
managers are ones I have a good...

Ossett Town v Retford United
Unibond Premier Division
Saturday 10th October
I don't really know what to say about today. The drive up was nice
enough, although I wasn't able to try the King's
Arms as intended. If anyone can explain the horses wandering
around Heath Common though, I would be hugely appreciative.
The ground deserved more in
the way of attendance (160-odd), and whilst the natives were friendly
enough, it would seem Ossett is fairly uninspiring place. That said,
it'...

Marine
boss Kevin Lynch says he is now starting to see the fighting spirit in
his side he has longed for.
The Mariners battled to an impressive 1-0 win at Retford United on
Saturday to give Lynch’s men a third consecutive win.
Three
points in Nottinghamshire catapulted the Whites to eighth in the
UniBond Premier Division
table though midweek results elsewhere
means they now lie in 11th.
Lynch said: “It was really
pleasing to keep a clean sheet in the win at Retford. Of late we have

Whitby Town aim to
end
their seven game winless run tomorrow at the Turnbull Ground when
Merseysiders Marine
visit in a rearranged Unibond
Premier Division clash.
Kevin Lynch's side are moored in mid-table, with five wins, seven
defeats and just one draw.
In contrast, Town have shared the spoils on five occasions.
Most
of Marine's wins can be attributed to runaway leading goalscorer Jamie
Rainford, who has already netted 11 times in 13 league matches.

Matlock
Town boss Mark
Atkins was still seething three days after watching his side succumb to
their highest defeat of the season at Bradford Park Avenue last
Saturday.
He
gave a blunt assessment about the 5-2 loss in the Unibond Premier Division, agreeing that it was
probably the worst Matlock performance since his arrival at Causeway
Lane just over ten months ago and hinted that some of the squad might
have tested his patience a little too much.

Monday Oct 5th
Silverlands is an odd place. It manages to combine the charm of rustic
old school stadia, with a couple of fairly impossing stands, all the
while making you think of what could be. No doubt the infrastructure is
in place for a succesful team. On nights like tonight, one can
see the potential. The stadium has a capacity of 5000+, so
the 350-odd hardy souls who braved the first wooly hat evening of the
season were fair... Continue reading ...

Lord knows if this will be
a long-running series. Even now I am aware of the amount of work I
might be signing up for. But I quite enjoyed doing it in a previous
guise, so I wouldn't go putting your mortgage on it, one way or the
other, just now.
