When I were a mere slip of a lad, I had little professed interest in football. I grew up on the posh side of the Wirral (I could see Wales as opposed to Liverpool from my bedroom window), and those friends I had followed Liverpool or Everton. As things moved along, more and more people seemed to be interested in Tranmere. This was the late 80's, and The Whites were rubbish. To the point where they escaped relegation on the last day of the season in the 86-87 season. So it could never be claimed they were glory hunters. I however was ever the contrary child, and so proclaimed to all that would listen that I was a Chester City fan. City were geographically Tranmere's closest league rivals, and I believe that in less family friendly times, the two sets of fans may well have had a couple of differences of opinion. That I never actually saw Chester play until I was in my early twenties, and no longer a local, is neither here or there.

Anyway the point of this preamble is to explain why the latest in a long line of monetary troubles at The Deva has interested me more than the others. I won't go in to details, if for no other reason than I don't really understand them. That link should explain most if it. What it all boils down to is that the club would appear to be closer to being phked than a Snakebite Slapper at half one on a Sunday morning.

This isn't the first time this has happened to Chester. It isn't the first time it has happened to a club this summer. It isn't even the first time that such duplicitous tactics have been employed by a POSSIBLY DODGY chairman. Which makes it all the more disgusting that things have gotten this far. What the hell are these people playing at? If I was a militant man, I might almost get angry. Football clubs are not businesses, and should not run be run by people who think they are. But if they should find themselves run by such a character, the checks and balances need to be in place to ensure that the innocent parties are not penalised, while those who have created the problems are brought to book. I don't know what will happen with the Vaughans. But I know what happened with Bates and Leeds. The Suits that supposedly run this game need to stand up and be counted at such times. The last thing they should be doing is jumping up and down waving pieces of paper in some forlorn attempt to protect themselves and appear "in control"
