Shirebrook Town 0 Rainworth MW 4

A quick geography lesson. Shirebrook and Rainworth are opposite sides of Mansfield.

What the more observant of readers will notice is the absence from this map of the metropolis of Leicester. This is because it is a good hour away from Rainworth, and approx 60 miles from Langwith Road, Shirebrook. So why then is it that the PA was blasting out the latest from the Hit Parade courtesy of Leicester Sound ...

Defender McManus goes AWOL

Posted by Nik Myles on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, In : Unibond

Mystery surrounds the whereabouts of Crewe defender Scott McManus who has gone AWOL after returning on loan to Curzon Ashton.

The 20-year-old defender, who impressed during Gudjon Thordarson's reign at Gresty Road, has had no contact with the UniBond League Division One North outfit since playing a handful of games for them in early October.

McManus made six appearances for Crewe when Thordarson was manager, but is believed to have been beset by personal problems.

It was agreed McManus sh...

Mealy mouthed men and marketing

Posted by Nik Myles on Tuesday, December 22, 2009, In : General

Just been reading up on the fiasco at Buckie Thistle, all perfectly encapsulated (when isn't it?) on 200%. It seems unnecessary for me to add further words when Ian has already written so eloquently, but I couldn't let it pass.

The web is full of video of football matches, of varying quality. Both the football and the footage, that is. And whilst the authorities at the top end of the market may feel they are protecting their "product" by trying to limit such footage, those who seek...

Those funny little colonials.

In the course of trawling through my reader feeds, I happened upon this article from The Guardian recalling the Vancouver Whitecaps. Not something that would usually grip my imagination, but the tale of the 1979 NASL Championship game is one which surely deserves greater examination. The bare facts, as ripped from that article, are a game of 3 1/2 hrs, two penalty shoot outs, a disallowed goal, player protests and laughably weak refereeing. But my ammended version doesn't do the tal...

And we're back...

It's been a turbulent few weeks at Oops Towers, and I can't promise there won't be further periods of radio silence in the future. But don't look a gift horse in the mouth, eh?

So, choices choices choices. Believe it or not, some thought goes in to these ramblings. Well, I say thought, but it's more a case of killing time on a Friday afternoon with an excel spreadsheet. That said, the spreadsheet gave me options for this afetrnoon. Of course, Retford away at FC United of Manchester was t...

From The Spoiler

A promising Nigeria U-21 star has been sentenced to 40 lashes of the whip, after being found guilty of drink driving in Khartoum, the capital of Sudan.

Striker Stephen Worgu, who plays for first division side Al-Merreikh, was ordered to pay fines of £12 for alcohol consumption and £48 for driving under the influence.

Worgu’s lawyer is appealing the case, while Al-Merreikh are also pleading his innocence. In an interview with the BBC in April, Worgu said:

I am finding it ha...
