Occasional musings upon the noble game.

Played variably.

Written consistently poorly.

Glapwell 0 Retford 1
Monday 13th April

For the first time this season, I was actually nervous before this game. Glapwell is an unassuming place, uninspiring in pretty much every way. I don't much like it, and I don't much like the people either. I didn't like it when we went there in the old NCEL days, and I haven't changed my opinion in the intervening years when soap operas and fixture lists have forced me to frequent one of my more local clubs.

As it turned out, I needn't have worried. My mos...

Apologies. It has been a while, and I have little doubt that your lives have been empty without me. Still, worse things happen at sea.

I don't like Goole as a place. I don't like Goole fans. And I don't tend to like Goole players. Matt Redmile, Brad Hill and the odd keeper excepted. I do however like the pies at Goole, and this may have clouded my judgement as to quite how unpleasant playing Goole can be. Well, dear viewer, I am here to tell you it can be very unpleasant.

Glapwell 3 Willenhall 0

Just so we're clear, Herself was watching Mistresses on the googlebox. I had suffered a day in south Nottingham learning all about Dreamweaver* and needed some fresh air. A quick scan of Tony Kempster's excellent-as-ever site alerted me to the fact that despite this being the start of the arse end of the season, there wasn't an awful lot happening in our neck of the woods. I would normally walk over hot coals not to go to Glapwell, but there was little other option. My last visit to Hall Corn...

The sooner football becomes an indoor sport, the sooner Cannon Park will become a fortress, and the sooner World Domination will be a certainty. Yesterday's game was the classic game of two halves, and all because of the wind. As seasoned visitors to CP know all too well, the climate at the top end of Leverton Road is drastically different from that anywhere else in the country. A leisurely stroll around town at 12.30 was conducted in t-shirts amidst talk of sunglasses and shorts. Come kick o...

Gresley 0 Retford 4

Posted by Nik on Sunday, March 1, 2009,

Gresley Rovers are a club in trouble. There but for the grace of God, it could well have been us. Years of financial mismanagement, self delusion coupled with fan deception, and a degree of fan apathy. It all sounds painfully familiar. At times like this, a club needs good people at the helm, with thick skins and a vague masochistic streak. Both clubs are lucky to have already had managers in lace with these characteristics, and it sounds like Gresley now have a Chairman to match now. Good lu...
